I'm considering selling my house in Southern California and relocating to South Carolina. Where are the most affordable and family oriented beaches in SC. We are an active family into Surfing,Mtn Biking ,running and other outdoor activites. We are also vegetarian and looking for people with similar lifestyles in SC. I have never visited SC, but it looks nice on the web. What is the normal size of the surf? Would appreciate any input on the Weather and employment in SC as well.

Check out the Brunswick County Beaches instead. Stay away from NMB. No offense to any South landers out there.

take the advice and run. waves suck here. i can't wait to be done with school, then i'm gone. this place is a trap, a redneck riviera. especially for someone coming from the west coast. NC gets good surf and hey, you might feel somewhat at home with wilmywood's movie industry. do me a favor, if you do end up in wilmington and you see that dork from "dawson's sheeat creek" punch him in the face. what a dork. have i got a story about him. anyways, happy researching! I can't imagine moving from Cali and comparing surf. It's usually pretty weak surf here, or decent size but broken up by the wind, except when there is a hurricane or low pressure swell and the wind is right. We sometimes go 4 weeks in the summer with no or wimpy surf. But the water temp gets up to 85 degrees. Plenty of rivers to play in also, if you have a boat or kayak.
The winter surf is not bad, but I don't think you can compare with CA unless you go to Outer Banks. But job market is pretty bad there, unless you can be self employed professional or trades of some sort. Pawleys Island is not too bad for job market, depends on what you do. Life style is good, I commute to work about 40 to 45 seconds when the traffic is heavy. Small community, lots of retirees. Opportunities in health care, golf, service industries. |

Dude the best place to live is in pawleys ISland.
The surf here doesnt get to outrageous about 5 to 6 feet on a good day. but it handles hurricane swells perfect. Its not to crowded and not to far away from surfside, murrels inlet. |
